Lean Duplex 2304 in Sheets, Plates, Rod, Bar

SPECIFICATIONS: GRADE Lean Duplex | UNS S32304 | ASTM/ASME A240 | Werkstoff 1.4362

Lean duplex 2304 is a 23‰ Cr, 4‰ Nickel, Mo free duplex stainless steel (23.04). We hold stock of duplex alloys in plate, sheet, and bar from our warehouse in the UK. We often meet specialist alloy profiling requirements and are a global supplier.

The alloy lean duplex 2304 has similar corrosion resistance properties to 316L. Furthermore, its mechanical properties i.e. yield strength, are twice those of 304/316 austenitic grades. This allows the designer to save weight, particularly for properly designed pressure vessel applications.

The alloy is particularly suitable for applications covering the -50°C/+300°C (-58°F/572°F) temperature range. Lower temperatures may also be considered, but need some restrictions, particularly for welded structures.

With its duplex microstructure, low nickel and high chromium contents, the alloy has improved stress corrosion resistance properties compared to 304 and 316 austenitic grades.

General Properties

Duplex 2304 is a 23% chromium, 4% nickel, molybdenum-free duplex stainless steel whose structure is a balance of ferritic and austenitic. It has general corrosion resistance similar or better than Alloys 304L and 316L but with yield strength nearly double that of austenitic stainless steels. Its duplex microstructure and low nickel and high chromium contents also allows Duplex 2304 to demonstrate improved stress corrosion resistant properties compared to 304 and 316. It is typically suitable for all applications in the -58oF to 572oF (-50oC to 300oC) temperature range and is designed to feature high mechanical strength, good weldability, good corrosion resistance, high resistance to stress corrosion cracking, good machinability, low thermal expansion, good fatigue properties, high thermal conductivity, and easy fabrication.

Specifications: UNS S32304

Applications:

Duplex 2304 is generally used in the same applications in which Alloys 304 and 316L are used. Some examples of these applications include:

  • Chloride containing environments
  • Welded pipe systems within the Pulp and Paper, Chemical and Petrochemical, and Water Treatment industries
  • Transportations
  • Heat exchanger tubes
  • Architecture, building, construction
  • Pressure vessels
  • Caustic solutions, organic acids
  • Food industry

Standards:

  • ASTM/ASME: UNS S32304
  • EURONORM: FeMi35Cr20Cu4Mo2
  • DIN: 2.4660

Application

Pulp and paper industry, caustic solutions, organic acids, food industry, pressure vessels.

Duplex 2304 Description

Duplex Alloy 2304 is a two-phase, ferritic, austenitic 23% chromium, 4% nickel, molybdenum-free duplex stainless steel. It has similar corrosion resistance properties to 316L. Furthemore, its mechanical properties are twice those of 304L/316L austenitic grades. This allows the designer to save weight, particularly for properly designed pressure vessel applications. The alloy is partcularly suitable for applications covering the -50°C/+300°C temperature range.

Finishes

#1 – Hot rolled annealed and descaled. It is available in strip, foil and ribbon. It is used for applications where a smooth decorative finish is not required.
# 2D – Dull finish produced by cold rolling, annealing and descaling. Used for deep drawn parts and those parts that need to retain lubricants in the forming process.
# 2B –Smooth finish produced by cold rolling, annealing and descaling. A light cold rolling pass is added after anneal with polished rolls giving it a brighter finish than 2D.
#BA Bright annealed cold rolled and bright annealed
#CBA Course bright annealed cold rolled matte finish and bright anneal
#2 Cold Rolled
# 2BA – Smooth finish produced by cold rolling and bright annealing. A light pass using highly polished rolls produces a glossy finish. A 2BA finish may be used for lightly formed applications where a glossy finish is desired in the formed part.
Polished - Various grit finish for specific polish finished requirements

Wire Finishes

XC-Extra clean. Bright annealed or bright annealed and cold rolled

Grease-Ultra bright finish for decorative applicatios

Soap-Soap is not removed from tempered wire to act as a lubricant.

Heat Treatment

2304 Cannot be hardened by heat treatment
